Prescribed Learning Outcomes

All of Max's performances and workshop are rooted in The Key Concepts as outlined in the Prescribed Learning Outcomes for English Language Arts in British Columbia and the Yukon. Some of the Key Concepts included are as follows:

  • Oral Language: both listening and speaking during each presentation. Teachers may include further speaking units inspired by the presentation.
  • Reading: Well performed poems, songs and stories often inspire young people to read more. Teachers can increase this possibility by circulating Max's books and audio CDs.
  • Writing: Strong performances by Max can also inspire young people to write. Teachers can increase this possibility by encouraging students to write in the style of some of Max's writing.

In addition, teachers may springboard from Max's stories, songs or poems to such issues as Purpose, Strategies, Thinking and Feelings.
